Schedule Exam:
Exams can be scheduled through this website. For your convenience I will publish my schedule for the following month no later than the 18th day of the current month. There will generally be one morning slot and one afternoon slot available. Select the time that most closely matches and is best suited for your situation and I will be in contact to discuss the details. In many cases I can modify times to accommodate your request. Any day indicating no availability means I have already been booked. Please make sure that today is ON or AFTER the 18th of the month if you are planning your checkride for the following month. You may always check back as cancellations do sometimes occur.
Prior to Exam:
An email with all information pertaining to the exam will be sent to you. This will include a worksheet/checklist to ensure both you and the aircraft are legal for the exam. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, verify flight times and endorsements are logged correctly as well as in date! It is highly recommended that you tab your logbook or create a spreadsheet indicating the location of pertinent requirements for the certificate you are seeking. All applications should be submitted using IACRA prior to the exam.
Day of Exam:
Arrive at KSGF (preferred) or agreed upon airport. My office (Suite 120) is inside the Midwest Premier FBO located on the Northeast quadrant of the airport. Coffee, drinks, sandwiches, and microwavable dish vending are available. In addition, quiet rest areas, weather planning computers, and fuel services may be utilized for your convenience. If arrangements are made to meet elsewhere, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide and confirm the availability of a quiet, private, and distraction free workspace such as an office. Public FBOs do not suffice for this requirement. For the processing of IACRA files make sure internet service and a printer are available.
The oral exam MUST be conducted first.
The flight portion of the exam will only take place once the oral portion is considered successful. Please note that some oral questioning may still take place during the flight!
Three Possible Outcomes:
A Temporary Certificate is issued- This occurs when both the oral portion and flight portion has met all of the standards of the ACS. You will receive a temporary certificate to exercise privileges.
Letter of Discontinuance- This may occur due to weather exceeding the limitations of the airmen, the aircraft, or the examiner. Also, it could be discovered that the aircraft has a maintenance issue, or another safety reason. This can happen after the oral exam is completed, but prior to takeoff or it may happen once airborne should an unforeseen safety related issue take place and require a return to the airport. The test is picked up at a later date when conditions are met to finish exam. This can be completed with me or with any other examiner. Additional fees may be required.
Notice of Disapproval- This occurs when either the oral portion or the flight portion has not met the standards of the ACS. The applicant will get credit for all successful items and will need to retest on AT LEAST the items that did not meet the standards. This can be completed with me or with any other examiner. A retest fee will be required upon return.
If a Discontinuance or Disapproval takes place the Applicant will have 60 days from the date of the first attempt to complete the exam. If the process takes longer than 60 days to complete the Applicant will have to retest the ENTIRE EXAM. (This will require a full examination fee).
